The Challenge – Day 3
Finally I was able to actually complete a challenge! The assignment for Day 3 was to spend 20 minutes doing just one thing. Basically, the opposite of multi-tasking. My task was to go through some research for a parenting class I am teaching in a few weeks. I set a timer for 20 minutes and got to work. I had my laptop open because the timer was an online timer, but it took a lot of effort not to keep checking to see if I had an email or a Facebook notification. (I am completely addicted to the internet, and I’m not afraid to admit that, so I wasn’t expecting this to be easy.) I also had lots of thoughts coming into my head about things I needed to do when I was done working, all the things I needed to clean up or put away in my office, and other random stuff, but I was able to stop them pretty quickly and keep going with my task. After the 20 minutes was up, I wasn’t finished with what I needed to do, so I worked for another 10 minutes or so. I was really proud of myself for being able to complete this challenge after the trouble I had the first two days!
While doing this assignment, I thought that it might be worth doing this on a regular basis during my work day (or with cleaning and other things around the house). I felt really productive after only 30 minutes of doing something that needed to be done, and it was a great feeling! I can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings!
